| Notes: |
This is a series of three 10-second images showing the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle Atlantis flying over the Ontario, California area. The ISS is seen in the brighter streaks higher in the photo and the shuttle is seen in the shorter streaks closer to the horizon. Why the dashes instead of solid lines? The image is a combination of 3 separate exposures, each 10 seconds in length. There was a couple second delay between each photo, hence the gaps. You can tell by the slightly larger gap that the delay between the 1st and 2nd images was slightly longer than the delay between the 2nd and 3rd images.
The brighter stars that are visible are roughly magnitude 3 to 3.5 and most are located in the constellation Ursa Major. The brighter star just to the right of the ISS trail is magnitude 3.35 Muscida.
The original, full-frame (reduced in size), color image can be found here (1200 x 800, ~500 KB).
