M27, the Dumbbell Nebula, is a magnitude 7.4 planetary nebula in Vulpecula. It was discovered by Charless Messier in 1764 and was given its "Dumbbell" moniker by John Herschel.
This image was taken using an Hα filter, which tends to deemphasize star size and reveals much of the turbulent structure of the nebula.
