M31 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda. Under dark skies it is visible to the naked eye. Other than small, dwarf, satellite galaxies of the Milky Way, M31 is our closest galactic neighbor. Astronomers say that the Milky Way and Andromeda Galaxies will begin a gravitational dance around each other within a couple billion years and will collide a few hundred million years after that.

This image has some color and noise issues. The ambient temperature was about 78°F and there was a great amout of dust in the air, making it difficult to get the brownish/reddishness out of the image without adversely affecting the other colors.
