This is the cloud left by a Delta IV rocket launched from Vandenberg AFB, approximately 170 miles (as the bird flies) from my home. The cloud was several minutes old by the time I noticed it and was able to photograph it. A rocket cloud such as this would typically go unnoticed if it wasn't for the time of evening that the rocket was launched. The sun had already set but the rocket was high enough such that sunlight could still illuminate its exhaust cloud high in the atmosphere.
