Processing: Image acquisition with Canon EOS Utility. Dark frame calibration (15 dark frames), align, and combine in ImagesPlus 3.0. Levels, curves, and resizing in Photoshop.
So, what's with the odd composition? Usually, if one can fit both the North American and Pelican nebulae, one will frame the two better, turning the camera 90° or at least centering them. My main imaging setup for the night was the SV80S with the ST-10XME. With those I was imaging just the Pelican, which fills the frame. Using the 40D with the 200mm lens on top was just an afterthought and a bonus.
